Ducted air conditioning is a reversible air-to-air system whose indoor unit is not fixed to the wall: it is installed in the loft, a false ceiling or a utility room. Treated air circulates through insulated ducts to supply grilles in the rooms. The result: even comfort with no visible appliance.
The benefits of ducted air conditioning
- No visible appliance in the rooms: only discreet grilles
- Even comfort across several rooms from a single indoor unit
- Cooling in summer and heating in the mid-season thanks to reversible operation
- Quiet operation in living areas, as the unit is remote
- The option of zone-by-zone temperature control, depending on the equipment chosen
When is it relevant?
- New build or heavy renovation, where ducts can be integrated easily
- Accessible loft space or an existing false ceiling above the rooms to treat
- A house or large flat where several rooms are to be treated
- An interior where aesthetics matter: exposed stone, careful decoration
- Replacing an old ducted system
Limits and points to check
A solution that suits one home does not necessarily suit another. These points are systematically examined during the on-site study:
- Space available for the indoor unit and duct routing (false-ceiling height, loft access)
- More extensive works than wall-mounted air conditioning, sometimes creating a false ceiling
- Access to the unit for maintenance (inspection hatch)
- Insulation of the ducts, especially where they cross lofts that are hot in summer
- Position of the outdoor unit, noise, and condominium or planning rules

How does the support work?
- Your request and the appointmentYou describe your project online (pre-study) or by phone. With your agreement, the adviser calls you back to arrange an appointment at your home.
- The full on-site study, free and with no obligationIn your presence: analysis of your bills and consumption, rooms to be treated, feasibility in the loft or false ceiling, duct routing, layout of grilles and units, power supply. If the project makes sense, the adviser presents the partner installer’s detailed offer.
- Time to decideYou can sign at the appointment or take time to think. Once you have agreed, you have the legal 14-day withdrawal period.
- The partner installer’s check visitAfter the withdrawal period, the partner installer visits the site in turn to confirm all the technical points.
- Formalities and any financial aidTown-hall declaration if the outdoor unit changes the look of the façade, condominium approval where applicable, any financial aid and, if needed, a financing application. If an essential approval is refused, the project is cancelled.
- Installation, checks and after-sales serviceOnce all approvals have been obtained, the installation is carried out by a qualified partner installer, certified to handle refrigerants and with ten-year insurance, followed by airflow adjustment room by room, commissioning and advice on use. The partner installer then provides after-sales service under its own guarantees and those of the manufacturers.
What influences the cost of your project
We do not give prices without a study: a price displayed online could not take your situation into account. The main factors that change the quote are:
- The number of rooms and supply grilles
- The length and complexity of the duct network
- Any false ceiling or boxing-in to create
- The power needed and the choice of equipment
- Room-by-room or zone control
Financial aid: whether aid exists, its amount and your eligibility depend on your situation (income, status, type of home), on the technical characteristics of the project and on the schemes in force at the time of the study. We check these points with you; no aid is guaranteed in advance.

What French regulations say
- Refrigerants: handling them is restricted to companies holding a certificate of competence issued by an approved body (French Environmental Code). This is one of the conditions met by the partner installers to whom the installation is entrusted.
- Planning rules: an outdoor unit visible from the street may require a prior declaration at the town hall; in a condominium, the agreement of the owners’ meeting is often required.
- Neighbours: the location of the outdoor unit is chosen to limit noise, as neighbourhood noise regulations apply.
- Financial aid: MaPrimeRénov’ and the CEE energy-saving premiums require the work to be carried out by an RGE-qualified company using eligible equipment: this is a selection criterion for our partner installers. The amounts depend on your situation and on the rules in force at the time of the study.
- Maintenance: filters must be cleaned regularly and the installation checked by a professional. Depending on power and refrigerant charge, periodic maintenance or a leak-tightness check may be mandatory.
Ducted air conditioning in the Var and western Alpes-Maritimes
In villas on the Var coast as well as houses around Grasse, ducted air conditioning treats a whole house without wall units, which is often appreciated in homes with character.
Lofts under the roof, very hot in summer in our region, call for particular attention to the insulation of the ducts and the unit: this is systematically checked during the on-site study.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from wall-mounted air conditioning?
Wall-mounted air conditioning puts a visible unit in each room. Ducted systems use a single hidden indoor unit and distribute air through ducts to discreet grilles.
Can a ducted system be installed in an existing house?
Yes, if there is an accessible loft or a false ceiling, or one can be created. The on-site study confirms this.
Is ducted air conditioning noisy?
In the rooms you mostly hear a slight airflow at the grilles. The indoor unit is remote and the outdoor unit is positioned to limit nuisance.
Can the temperature be set room by room?
This is possible with zone control, depending on the equipment and the layout. We study it with you.
Complementary solutions
Our commitments
- A study of your situation before any proposal
- Clear explanations of feasibility, constraints and administrative steps
- No unverified promise of aid, savings or return on investment
- A callback agreement that you can withdraw at any time
Who carries out the installation? Agence IntExt, an Independent Business Manager (VDI Mandataire), advises you, studies your project and coordinates its delivery. The Agency does not carry out the works itself: the installation is entrusted to independent partner installers, selected for their qualifications (RGE, QualiPV, QualiPAC… depending on the solution) and their ten-year (décennale) insurance, so that the installation complies with the standards and regulations in force.
